The Department of Justice (DOJ) published new regulations addressing digital accessibility under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) that will go into effect on April 24, 2026. The revised rule mandates that all web content and mobile apps (digital content) must be readily accessible upfront and comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1, Levels A and AA (WCAG 2.1).

Timeline
Autumn 2024
- Digital Accessibility Working Groups assembled to focus on training, resources, communication, and more. These groups included a broad range of stakeholders from across the university.
Spring 2025
- The working groups developed content around the 3Rs Review strategy and the 7 Core Skills for creating accessible content.
- The RFP for a learning management system (LMS) scanning tool opened.
Summer 2025
- The Digital Accessibility project hub was published on the DAS website.
- Canvas training modules have been made available.
- The LMS Scanning Tool RFP is in progress.
Autumn 2025
- OTDI and the Drake Institute will hold in-person and online synchronous accessibility workshops on Core Skills, Remediation and Replacement, and Content Creation beginning Week 2.
- The selected LMS scanning tool will be made available later in the semester, with training planned towards the end of the semester.
Spring 2026
- Title II changes take effect in April.
